Hi! My name is Amanda Clare Blyth and I am 34 years young! I am super excited to bring mountain biking to Flinders Island, and can’t wait to show it to you! This island has many wonderful places to explore and I am humbled to be able to share just a few of them. I have a lot of respect for Flinders Island and the Flinders Island community, and this includes my friend Claire and co-tour guide. She is full of enthusiasm and we make a great team!
I have done many things in my life, but it is without doubt that my most important and valued role is being a mum to our young son. I love him to pieces and showing him all the great things about our world.
Flinders Island has always held a special place in my heart, and believe it is about as perfect as a place can be in this twenty first century of ours. We have exceptionally clean air, extraordinary beaches, caring people and lots and lots of space to breathe and think and wonder. I could not imagine living or raising a child anywhere else.
Mountain Biking for me came just a few years ago when I was looking for a different sense of thrill and adventure. I love the outdoors and whilst I was used to finding new trails in my saddle on my horse, I found that exploring on mountain bikes gave me a new challenge and was equally as rewarding.
Sport has always played a huge role in my life. At thirteen I won an Australian gold medal for Judo, and five years later I won U/19’s Tasmania’s Best and Fairest for netball. But these days my competition days are well and truly done and dusted; preferring a more casual approach to life!
I look forward to riding our trails with you, and until then, see you when you get here!
I grew up on Flinders Island and attended the local school until I left to go to boarding school in Launceston. I missed the beaches and wide-open spaces of Flinders, but I went on to complete a Tourism and marketing degree at the University of Tasmania.
While at Uni I had the best casual tour guiding jobs; with Bay of Fires Cradle Huts Walks, Valleybrook wine tours, and Hollybank Treetop Adventure. Then the travel bug hit and I moved to Queenstown, New Zealand. Here I stayed in the tourism industry and picked up a job with AJ Hackett Bungy Jumping.
After a year I decided to move back to Tasmania and found myself in my first serious Monday to Friday role at Josef Chromy Wines as the Marketing Assistant. The next lifestyle change was marriage and children; I spent the next six years as a home mum, until one night I called my husband and said, “bring wine home, we need to chat!” (like all men he thought he was in trouble). “How about we move home to Flinders?” I asked.
Four months later myself and Amanda are knee deep in paper work getting Mountain Biking Flinders Island ready for the summer of 2018/19. I could not be happier, home is where the heart is!
Flinders Island is truly one of those magic places that pulls at your heart strings, when you get off the plane you feel the need to take in a huge breath of fresh air. With beautiful beaches and stunning mountains Flinders just yells “come and explore me!”
I could not have found a better partner in crime than Amanda, with the same strong community values and the “go get it” attitude. You will be in safe hands and sure to have an amazing time out on tour with us.
Keeping it real !
